What is a zirconium crown?

Zirconium crown is a kind of white colored alloy used in dental prostheses. Although there is metal in classical crowns, Zirconium crown do not contain metal. Therefore, although it does not cause any allergy in the mouth, it does not cause any change in taste or bad smell in the mouth.

In which cases is zirconium crown applied?

Zirconium crown is mostly used for aesthetic purposes in smile design processes, but they are quite robust and functional. Since it does not contain metal, its light transmittance is much higher than conventional tooth crowns, which means more adaptation to the original colour of the tooth. Zirconium crowns are coatings that adapt to the mouth in terms of colour and structure that cannot be distinguished from the person’s natural teeth. It is frequently used in split teeth, in tooth fillings that have deformed over time, and in perplexed dental treatments. Zirconium crowns, which can be used easily in the restoration of anterior teeth due to their natural appearance, are long-lasting. Zirconium crowns having a component compatible with the gums do not cause any gum problems in the future. Moreover, even if the person has gum recession, etc. regardless of the procedure performed over time, zirconium crowns still maintain their harmony with the mouth in terms of appearance. It does not cause any bruising etc. image at the level of the gum line as in conventional tooth coatings.

Zirconium crowns are personalized crowns. For this reason, the teeth and mouth measurements of the person are taken before the application. Zirconium-based crowns created in line with the measurements taken can be easily applied to the tooth in a clinical environment. If necessary, a reduction / cutting process is performed on the teeth before zirconium crowns as in classical covering. However, since the whole process passes under local anesthesia, patients do not experience any severe pain during these procedures. Safely applied zirconium crowns are long-lasting and do not change colour over time. Zirconium coatings, which preserve the colour of the day they are applied, are therefore more preferred than conventional metal-containing crowns.

Zirconium crowns do not need any special care. It is sufficient to have daily oral and dental care and general dental examinations performed by the dentist every 6 months.
